Can Vpro V10 from Tezro fit on Octane? -

Hi guys,
I’m a new sgi owner.
Just happens to stumbled upon a V10 from Tezro. I’m interested to install this as an upgrade for my Octane.
Is this card going to be compatible?

No. The XIO systems are not compatible and there's completely different electrical systems.
That being said, some of us may trade you for a VPro for the Octane if that works.

Thanks for your reply.
Took me some time to understand what is XIO system. But I'm glad that I've asked before I buy the hardware off a local seller. I don't think I'll ever get hold of Tezro. I've also found a Vpro V8 for Octane. Is this card any good for upgrade? I've read from wiki that V8 won't require a power supply upgrade for Octane. Is that right?
I've been trying to search for information about Vpro V8 but I only come across very limited info about it. There's aren't much feedback left online on it's performance and usability. All I know is that it has pretty high vram and only about half of the performance of V12.

You'll need to ensure you have an XBow version of at least 1.3 to use the V8 in your system. Also, bear in mind that there's a design flaw in the PCB of the V6/V8 boards that prevents them from using graphics modes with a pixel clock inbetween 109-193MHz. Not sure what modes your monitor is capable of using, but it's something to bear in mind.

Thanks for your kind advise.
I have to wait for the arrival of my Octane and also O2 to be sure of that. I've just ordered both of the hardware since a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully I can be able to receive it within this month.

I will verify that XBow 1.3 works with V6/V8 but sadly not with V10/V12. You get the initial splash screen, but then it stops working. V10/V12 do require 1.4 XBow.
V10/V12 also for a number of reasons do not work in Origin2000, which is too bad because that would have been sweet and not require XIO slot modification the way SSI/SSE/MXI/MXE does. Ah well, might get a Octane 1.4 FP1 at some point...
