Wanted: Dead or Alive RealityEngine DG2 - SuigintouLain - 12-06-2020
Howdy. My DG2's EEPROM seems to have failed and none of the usual vendors seem to be willing to cough a whole board up. If you have a spare EEPROM off a dead board that would be preferable, but if you need the whole board gone I'm game. I do not have a target price for this request as the market is non-existent and the prices at the vendors are with warranty. I'm in the Greater Sacramento Area of California, willing to pay for shipping from anywhere one exists. Willing to use basically any payment method, Paypal is preferred due to ease of use.

Are you sure it's on the DG2? I'm pretty sure there's one on the GE8/GE10...

The error is "ERROR: RealityEngine DG eeprom contents invalid (id)" followed by it complaining that it can't load a dummy vdrc. After complaining for quite a while then stating that it's loading the VOP from the disk, it kills X with "WARNING: RE pipe 0: vcstage change timed out". All this leads me to believe that the FPGA in charge of initializing the DG is just giving up after loading garbage from the little config EEPROM close to the 2nd eurocard connector near the back of the board.

Yo, I'm out of element...but have a need to help. So forgive me if I'm off base.
Your error is a known event type...but nothing too much comes up for fixing it. However, if you widen the search for just "sgi eeprom DG invalid" you come up with the old Origin 3400 manual. This manual mentions how to "restore a corrupt GE EEPROM". I don't know if that's similar enough to whatever a DG is, but it's graphics related - so I assume your issue still applies (Graphics EEPROM corrupt). Page: 253, walks you through the "undocumented" ireeprom command that can reflash you GE EEPROM...which I assume is like an older version of whatever a DG is?

Replaced the EEPROM with a NOS one to no success, it's definitely the whole board. I guess close the thread because there's no spare DG2 in the wild left.
