cpio DAT extraction -

Are there any cpio experts on here? Trying to do a force extract, believe that cpio and tar can work with this, but can't figure out how to do a dump of a DAT that barks errors in the GUI when trying to do a restore..

What errors are you getting? Could your media be bad?

Not sure if the media is bad.. On two of them, I get DAT full, load another, which is strange, as when I made them, I made sure that I only backed up what the capacity of the tape is. One fails when it can't read a file, which is some random system file.. Not the files I am looking to get off the DAT. This one in particular has a copy of N-World on it and a bunch of other interesting stuff which is no where to be found and I think many would be interested in taking it for a run. My other new 15K drive already failed, but dd can be an option right? To just back up the DAT to a blank disk.?
Funny thing is, these all were stored with a bunch of other video tapes and audio tapes and don't have any issues with any of them. Sure that there has to be a force command with tar to skip the errors. Will fire up the machine and try again this afternoon.
