Not Irix, but wish it was - 02girl - 05-31-2020

My o2 is in storage, and I don't know what Irix software can do this... (Autodesk Fusion)

Plan- at least convert model to Iv so I can play with it on o2, when I've found space and a flat panel for it.

I suppose Pro/E Wildfire 2 would be a candidate, not sure there is a serial / patch available for the IRIX version. (Actually, check with vishnu or hamei, I recall they both may have some CAD / CAM experience?) Otherwise Alias Maybe for modelling, or CATIA? Once again, not sure if there is a version of CATIA with a patch.

Why do I recall somebody on here posting some CAD / CAM work for a part they were modelling...
If you're just after modelling, then even Blender, Lightwave Modeller, Maya etc would work.

I generated a license file for Wildfire 2, and I have it up and running on both my Tezro and Octane2. The license fie generator is a .exe file, so you therefore need a PC to generate the license file.

Do you know if an O2 is up to the job for WF2? When I get my O2 going properly (had to switch to the R5k) with some software I'll try WF2, though I've never done industrial CAD/CAM, only architectural CAD/BIM.

I would say so!

I wonder if it will run ? WF2 is a 64-bit program - the only reason it exists is some bigtime Irix customers needed massive memory for assemblies with tons of parts. By the time WF3 came along they had moved to Windders. So my question would be, can a 64 bit program run on an O2 ?

If not, 2001 would be the nicest, maybe. Wildfire has a nicer interface but the underlying program is the same, just a lot of popup menus in 2001 and earlier. I ran 2000i on an Indigo Elan with no problem so should be fine on an O2.

There's also a Studio Tools out there that should work. (In the illicit-but-available software collection, I mean. There's lots of stuff that would work but harder to come by.)

Somebody please try and report back Smile

The O2, is a 64-bit machine, so it will run WF2.

As for performance, especially with larger models, that I can't say.

Actually, it's not. The processor is capable of 64 bit but the O2 does not run as a 64 bit computer, at least software-wise.

It's been years and my brain is not so good, j-j can explain better but IP 32 does not run 64 bit programs. It may just be that since the O2 can't install more than 1 gig memory, SGI just pulled the useless components out of an O2 install and manual addition of those components would make it work. Don't know, never tried.

Now, whether Wildfire 2 will run, I also dunno. The story about why it exists might be just a story, it may not be a 64 bit program at all, it would be interesting to find out for real. So much story-telling in the world, so little real experience, someone should correct that Smile

He's correct, if it's an n64 ABI executable, the O2 will refuse to run it.

Cool! Thanks for the information!
