Anther SGI Beat up by UPS My Tezro - vincefaro - 05-29-2020
My Tezro was shipped and when it landed t was beat up by UPS. The external fan enclosure is dented. The side of the case is chipped. Now Fan 1 , is at 0 RPM and wont boot up . How possible is it to replace the 3 external fans. maybe just two since one is still working Does anyone know what the correct replacements would be?
Im sad.

So the fan assembly can be tapped out, and you'll want to make sure that the fans can move and aren't broke or out of balance. Also you should absolutely file an insurance claim and use pricing from a major vendor like Ian Mapleson or Mashek as pricing. If the seller didn't insure it, take him to small claims if he doesn't pay up a partial refund.

Ouch! That couldn’t have been packaged properly!
My advice is to take that part of the machine to a panel shop, to get it fixed properly by a professional!
Don’t try to fix it yourself if you don’t have the correct tooling or expertise!
How badly damaged are the plastics?

Yeah it won't boot if the system can't verify fan function. If there's no major internal damage, with a little careful triage and sheet metal work and you should be able to get it going, good luck and don't hesitate to post any issues that arise...

I will get the external fan housing fixed by someone . What about the fans ? Does anyone know what the proper replacement fans are for 1 and 2?

SGI fans are proprietary, so you should hope the fans are not shattered. The fans aren't rotating because the housing is bent. So fix the housing first, and problem solved.

Someone has replaced all of the fans in a Tezro in the past, so it is possible!
The machine must have taken quite a knock to inflict that damage, how was it packaged?

Yeah I opened the whole fan assembly on mine to replace one of them, not hard at all, just a basic power screwdriver kit and you're off to the races. I'm not positive, but I think I got my replacement unit from Ian Mapleson.

I don't know about the Tezro, but I changed the fans in an Origin 300 and the fans were nothing special, but the order of the 3 pins had been changed in the connector. Sigh :(
