Solaris 2.5.1 PPC Compiler - micrex22 - 05-13-2020

Hey all,

Since this was a subject of great 'controversy' as nobody had kept the compiler found in the special toolkit sun microsystems released back throughout 2012 ~ 2019 for the PPC variant of 2.5.1. The compiler has been found and I've notified as many people as I knew who were asking for it, but since there may be more I thought I'd publicly mention it here.

The compiler is missing the rich install package though, so symlinks are missing and from what I'm told it's going to be hellish to find all of them and get it set up (far beyond my expertise at the moment). This was always a matter I've had close fascination with, but kind of lost interest being distracted by other things--but yeah, at least it's found in the year 2020.

2020 -- the year of the PowerPC Solaris Desktop!!!!

At any rate if anyone's looking for it I can gladly PM them the download link. I'd be also interested to see someone *actually* getting it working and compiling something with it.

Cheers,

Nice reading:

https://archive.org/download/solarisppc/ppccomp.tar.gz

Take a look into ./teamware/license_dir/license.dat which stating FEATURE/INCREMENT lines but I can't confirm if these are working because in lack of (emulated/real) hardware and time :-\

I do know of some who used the compiler and it wasn’t hindered by flexlm

...able to get PROworks/PROcompiler running w/o issues under Solaris 2.4 x86 within VM. Yes, not PPC because in lack of HW.

Nevertheless, included license.dat file is valid for all three architectures/ISA's: SPARC, PowerPC, x86

Just set the "offered" domain name, e.g. within /etc/defaultdomain (reboot safe) and/or with command
# domainname sun.com
(at runtime)

Maybe one day the install media is available on archive.org as well. Crossing fingers.
