MAME Quickstart CHD file -

User Shrek has kindly created a very nice IRIX 6.5.22m chd file for MAME that's ready to go. You can get it from:

And a 5.3 MAME file has been setup by Shrek as well. I've put it up there.

Hi,
I tested the CHD 5.3 and 6.5 created by Shrek, thanks to him!
They both work (but 6.5 is painfully slow).
I already had the CHD 6.2 which had been available for some time.
I noticed that I can't open a iso mounted CD with 6.2 while 5.3 works perfectly.
What's the difference?
For 5.3 I use this:
mame64 indy_4610 -gio64_gfx xl24 -resolution 1280x1024 -hard1 irix53.chd -cdrom mycd.iso
For 6.2 I use this:
mame64 indy_4610 -gio64_gfx xl24 -resolution 1280x1024 -hard1 irix62.chd -cdrom mycd.iso
As soon as I want to open the CD with 6.2 Mame crashes immediately with a block size error.
Regards,

Yeah it is slow. Takes around 15 minutes for 6.5.22 to boot on my machine. I noticed that double clicking the CDROM desktop icon in 6.2 will instantly crash MAME. It happens regardless of the host OS or MAME version. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done on these drivers. I did however just test this on 6.5 and it reads an IRIX 5.3 install CD image just fine. Trying to get the Hot Mix 19 CD open just brings up a message saying it's trying to identify it and to wait. Still nothing after an hour but no crashes either. So try your CD images on 6.5 and see if it makes a difference

So here's a way to reliably get files onto the emulated Indy. Just confirmed working in 6.5.22. No crashing or instability either. I made an ISO image on Debian with genisoimage that contained a few pictures just to test it. It mounts fine and I was able to copy the pictures to the desktop and open them with the default image viewer. This should work fine for programs and other files as well until we get networking.
I found this to be extremely helpful:
