O2 boots with normal color, once logged in screen has green tint - KayBee - 02-23-2020

Hi Irixers,

My O2 has the normal beautiful gradient blue during startup and POST, then it changes just before the login screen appears, to have a green tint. Have you folks seen this? I presume some setting, but where?

I appreciate any guidance, thank you.

That's a monitor issue, not a setting issue. Your monitor isn't understanding sync on green properly.

Thank you Raion, what prevented me from settling on that is the initial boot looks correct, then it turns green. Does the boot process initially sync differently? Funny, I just saw your great VCF East 2019 photos and an Indy  is looking green on a Dell LCD. You are no doubt correct, just the initial boot throws me off. My LCD is a Sun.

cheers,

You can get it to work properly, as I've done with my O2, by modifying your VGA cable in this way. Just understand that this cable won't work with other machines once this mod has been done.

NOTE THE PIN THAT HAS BEEN PUSHED IN.

Very cool, will do that today. Thanks for teaching.

Interesting - does disconnecting the HSync pin force it to assume sync-on-green mode or something? Seems like that'd still be monitor-dependent...

It works with my DELL monitors. "SE2416H"

Interesting. I too recently had noticed my O2’s video glitch when I switched to a different monitor, and I had used it before with no problems, so I started thinking..

Connecting the O2 with a VGA to BNC cable, and all of the BNCs connected to the monitor, the O2 was displaying a funny cast on the screen.

I had forgotten I was using the monitor with a non-SOG system earlier, and once I disconnected the H/V Sync BNCs, it went back to normal.

Hi All,

I was about to try Irinikus pin trick (which I am still curious about) when at work they gathered e-waste for a disposal so I grabbed an old Lenovo Thinkvision LCD. It worked immediately, so I now have a good display. Thank you for the advice.

Ok, so I tried Irinikus pin trick and it works. Pushing in the middle pin on the bottom row (labelled as HSYNC in pinouts I found) does indeed make the O2 video out look correct on my SUN LCD monitor. Cheers to you Irinikus.

Man this community is great.
