Changing the name given in your system's console? - Irinikus - 02-21-2020

I've been messing around with TOONZ Studio in IRIX and it has changed the name given in my Tezro's console from "IRIS" to "IRIS:root" and I would like to change it back.

How do I accomplish this?

I wasn't successful in getting it to run in IRIX (the license file wouldn't work), so I've deleted the user account it created, as well as it's files located on my root drive!

I noticed mine changed the prompt too -- I have been looking for an answer as well.  Reminded me of shenanigans when I installed flame and I ended up with a modified toolchest.  lol

That's unfortunate about the license not working.  I was hoping you'd have better results, as I was also hitting a wall on my side with the little O2...

Double-check the following files:

/etc/sys_id

.cshrc
.shrc
.bashrc
.login
. profile

Which of the latter 5 is applicable depends on the shell you're using.

IRINIKUS, look at .cshrc, .login & .profile, there are TOONZ modifications there in each..

I managed to fix it by viewing hidden files in my root directory and then making the copies of the files that I've encircled in this image as backups, and then swapping out the new versions with the old versions:

I've just done this for the .profile file as well!

It's irritating when you install programs and they make such changes to your system! :(

I try to avoid making assumptions about what somebody's shell is. I personally use tcsh and consider that the best shell IRIX comes with.

The sysadmins at my place of employ are constantly messing with everyone's .cshrc, very annoying! And they don't delete the old ones, so everyone's got dozens of stale files with ridiculous names like .cshrc-301520-jan10-1999. I delete that crap from my home directory but the MEs I work with are too clueless to know how to do that... Biggrin
