IRIX 6.5.31 is a fake - Raion - 01-10-2020

Someone has spread rumors of a 6.5.31 "Developer build" but it turns out to just be a flash program running on Windows that looks like IRIX at the surface level. I did doublecheck if there was any viruses that malwarebytes saw - it didn't on a cursory check, but I suggest people stay away from it. It's not in any way shape or form IRIX, and isn't even really a good recreation.

I won't link to it here.

Afaik, That user is a bit... overeager to help on irix stuff, while being almost completely ignorant of the hardware and OS. I don't blame him though, he is young, and knowledge takes time.

RE: IRIX 6.5.31 is a fake - Fletchable - 01-11-2020

Well... hey guys.

My sincerest apologies about this. I did not in any way, shape, or form mean to pass this off as IRIX. I mistakenly called it a build although it is NOTHING of the sort (obviously). It was merely a recreation (and you're right, Raion, it's terrible), and in my excitement to share it, I called it a build. No malware is in it because I don't even know how to program malware, believe me or not.

And yes, I am well aware that I am overeager and inexperienced and ignorant. I'm foolish, to understate it. Having only one Octane, yeah, I am pretty ignorant of the hardware and software. I don't really contribute anything useful to chats, either.

Again, very sorry about the confusion. I'm going to eliminate all traces of IRIX 6.5.31 because it sucks. Been meaning to for a while now. You guys are more intelligent and more experienced than I am, and I should never tried to do anything with my poorly designed software.

Thanks for reading.

Hey look man,

This wasn't intended to admonish you too harshly; it was simply because someone shared it to me and I got curious and decided to actually go in and see what it was for myself.

Indeed you were off the mark, but it's not like we would expect you to know this:

https://jurassicsystems.com

This is an HTML5-type approximation of some faculties of IRIX 4.x in a parody of the famous Jurassic Park scene.

If you want to get into OS design that's fine, it's probably best though to not misrepresent a flash program as a legit IRIX build. That is all I recommend - had you not called it 6.5.31 then I'd have never probably heard of it.

MAME does at least boot some of the lower end machines now, you should check out those threads.

Thanks. I understand better now.

I've always loved Jurassic Systems! It's such a cool site and one of my favorite forms of SGI representation in the modern world.

And yes, I have a full Indy setup in MAME already loaded, albeit very slow of course.

As for OS design, I haven't really gotten into that, but I am designing a *nix-type shell (I guess) in Python, so that's fun.

In any case, welcome aboard Biggrin

Same from me, you are welcome here. In this community you can learn a lot About These Systems, software and hardware. Ah, and regarding to "I don't really contribute anything useful to chats, either.", well, this post made me think About what we would actually Need to make a .31 overlay happen. Or what would be useful to include System and user wise.

Cheers

Tru

I don't know if you're talking about me.  I told a member of this forum (on Discord) I possibly had the source for a post 6.5.30 IRIX.  I didn't post this in public or make any other claims, and I think my bona-fides in the SGI community is pretty fucking rock solid.

I had to dip out for awhile due to (real-world) issues I'm sure nobody here is interested in.

Anyhow...  SGI is still one of my interests and I'm still here.

No sir, someone made a flash recreation of IRIX and was touting it as an IRIX equivalent. I got curious so I checked it out.

Wasn't talking about you at all lol.
