Octane2 V10 Resolution - Tephran - 12-15-2019

I haven't touched Irix in a seriously long time, I've come into posession of an Octane 2 with  V10 graphics. For the life of me I cant figure out where I'm going wrong trying to change the screen resolution to anything higher than 1280×1024. No matter the resolution, I am being told I don't have enough memory to go 1920x1080.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Octane2 V10 Resolution - Raion - 12-15-2019

The V10 only has 32M of RAM which means that it cannot display high resolutions without lowering your x-server depth to 8-bits.

You need to probably compile a VFO for your monitor

Max I could get out of a V6 (same vRAM as a V10) was 1920x1200 at 8bit.

Hmm, my Fuel has a V10 and I have no problems running it at 1600x1200 in 32bit mode. Haven't run it higher than this as my SGIs run via a 20" 4:3 monitor with 1600x1200 as the maximum res.

I had thought I attempted to lower it to 8 bit with no success. I'll attempt to compile a new VFO file and go from there and see what I come up with.

Yeah 1600x1200 @ 32bit is within the memory limits, my v6 couldn't  run this resolution due to the pixel clock bug in V6/V8 cards.

I run my Octane2, equipped with a V12 at 1280x1024! That's because I don't have a screen which supports 1920x1200! (It's ridiculous that it can output this resolution through a 13W3, but not 1920x1080!!!??? I will need to get a DCD for this machine in the future, because it's the only way it will be able to output 1920x1080!)

RE: Octane2 V10 Resolution - Trippynet - 12-15-2019

Or get a 1920x1200 monitor? 1920x1080 screens suck (sorry, I hate 16:9 monitors).

You should be able to build a vfo for 1920x1080 for V12.

First try the first link, otherwise have a read of the second and third ones and give it a go. Graham Loveridge put together a very good spreadsheet for calculating the VESA timing values.

Have fun.

I have built a VFO for my V12, which I use successfully on my Tezro, but you cannot output 1920x1080 through a 13W3!
