Blender test results across multiple platforms -

This is the complete set of results that I've complied so far, across the various platforms I have: (May it prove useful to you, when choosing a machine for yourself!)

This is a great comparison! Thank you for sharing these results. Very telling how the various hardware platforms perform.

Thanks!
I still have to test my gaming rig, equipped with a 980x as well as my Alienware Area 51 7500, once I've upgraded it with a QX9770. (These two machines will obviously sit somewhere between the Tezro and the Trashcan.)
The tests show the Trashcan, equipped with a quad-core Xeon @ 3.9GHz to be 867.25 times as powerful as an SGI Indy R5000 @150MHz, which is ridiculous if you think about it!
The tests also show the Tezro to be 51.78 times as powerful the Indy R5000, and the Trashcan to be 16.75 times as powerful as the Tezro!
I look very forward to Blender testing the new Mac Pro, when I eventually get it. Maybe in February 2021, as the Trashcan is still doing very well, and actually seems to perform better with Catalina installed than it did with Mojave!??? (I only want to get a new machine, when the Trashcan is no longer supported, as getting one sooner would just be wasteful.)
I definitely want to Blender test a Cray CX1 in the future too. (I think it will be interesting, as it's a true mini-supercomputer!)

It is indeed crazy to think how as technology moves forward, these CPU's continue to outperform previous models while obtaining a smaller footprint. Considering how much older the SGI hardware is in comparison to the Apple hardware, it still keeps up rather well!
A Cray CX-1 is a monster of a system. Would be very interested in seeing that machine being tested.

The latest set of results, including the Alienware machine:

I just ran test.blend on my Ryzen 3900x, and it's all over the map - completing it in anywhere from .13 to .26 seconds. My guess is we're getting to a point where test.blend isn't complex enough to properly benchmark today's machines. Perhaps someone can come up with another Blender scene that's both simple enough for our older machines to render, but complex enough to get a decent result from the newer stuff.
Next step for me is to install Blender on the POWER I2 and get you a result.

There’s a BMW scene that’s far more applicable to today’s machines.
In this video, I made use of this scene:

Nice video! That BMW scene is also used by AnandTech in a lot of their hardware reviews. My PC took 1m 58s to complete the render. Using your benchmarks and a little sloppy math, I estimate that my I2 would take a little more than 18 days to do the same.
