Personal Iris video out? -
Fascia - 11-21-2019
So I've had my PI for darned near a decade and never turned it on. Well, I'm gearing up to purge it from my collection, but I want to assess its health and possibly install some fresh IRIX, but I've run into a snag.
That HD-15 port on the back turns out to be some sort of HD-14, as my VGA cable won't go in. What gives? Googling around, everyone keeps saying it's a VGA HD-15, but I've attached a photo here showing something quite different.

each PI card has its own thing, but yeah, last time I saw that, someone sacrificed a VGA for that.

All Personal IRISes with a GR1.5 revision of the "Eclipse" graphics have a VGA port.
Pre DDC-standard, pin9 of the VGA connector was N/C. If you cut the pin from the VGA connector it will fit and work
VGA output on a Personal IRIS is 1024x768 a.k.a. the "low resolution option". If you want 1280x1024, use the BNC outputs. You don't need a monitor with RGB inputs, you can use a BNC-to-HD15 cable to attach the IRIS to a screen with VGA input (as long as it deals with sync-on-green).
