my fuel won't keep the date - roach-commuter - 11-13-2019

I recently powered on a fuel that I had in stock for some time. I never really played with it before , so it' s possible that
it was like this since the beginning. However, I noticed that even after setting the date, if powered off and unplugged, won't keep the date. It spits
something about preposterous time , during boot. I think it also mentions that the real time clock is too slow or something. Any idea what to check?
Isn't there a battery backed up chip somewhere that I can replace?
Thanks. This was my first post here. I used to be a nekochanner , although not a regular.

Looking through the archives and old threads, you're going to need a M4T32-BR12SH1. They're like $10 on Amazon. Should be an easy repair, since it looks like they just snap into place.

Have a look at this thread, where I replaced the SNAPHAT battery in my Tezro. The Tezro and full are similar in this aspect:

I have encircled the battery you need to replace:

You're going to need one of these: (Not he battery holder though!)

Do note that the Fuel also uses a Dallas battery as well (to the left, below the big heat-sinks). I'd replace the yellow one first, but if the Dallas is playing up, it might also need to be replaced. This is a bit of a sod as that part is out of production, and although there are some newer and larger capacity ones that fit, many of these are also out of production.

Thanks guys! I'll get the yellow chip first and let's see if that fixes it.

An Update: I managed to get the yellow timekeeper thingie off Amazon. And today I finally replaced it. The new one is slightly larger than the original but it doesn't matter because the pins line up perfectly and it worked out of the box. When booting it's no longer complaining about preposterous date or anything and it's keeping the time even when unplugged. A big thanks to you guys! Long live the shared Irix knowledge!
