What was the roundabout cost of highly specced Tezro back in 2006? - Irinikus - 10-02-2019

I managed to get my hands on one of SGI's price lists from 2006, and just for interest sake, I determined what my tezro might have cost back in those days.

Here are the results of my calculations:



So it would have probably been somewhere between $100775 and $65505, depending if you were eligible for an educational discount or not.

So they were rather pricy machines back in the day!

Because most educators had $65K sitting around for a deskside supercomputer

But on the flip side side it's interesting to see how much my Tezzie would have been as well...can you post the whole thing somewhere?

The magic word is "discount". If you buy a new car the price isn't the sum of the individual components either. Only a fool would have paid list price.

One thing that isn't shown here though is the price of the service contract. Those cost(ed) a pretty penny, but are unavoidable if you've got an expensive system in a key position. The finance dept also prefers budgeting a fixed annual cost over "in case the graphics in the Onyx break a new RM11 costs $55K but maybe we're lucky"

The interesting thing here, is that they didn’t seem to sell these machines as complete units and kind of forced you to configure your machine by buying the individual components from their price list.

I’m sure that most machines were sold at the discounted price though.

Sorry for the necrothread, but I looked for the document to see if anyone had mentioned it here before.

Does anyone know if the "Marketing codes" are actually part numbers?
If so, it's a very worthy document to store somewhere.

The marketing codes were used to order products from dealers. They are not part numbers.
