Anyone using alternative Window Manager? - Noguri - 09-24-2019

Hi,

I tried enlightenment tonight and it was rather fun to play with...
So I was wondering if anyone there used to use, try, or still use a different window manager other than 4Dwm.

If yes, and according to your experience:
- Are there any productivity increase/decrease doing so?
- Any compatibility issues you faced? Pros or cons?
- Am I just too heretic by even trying to use another wm?

Your lights are most welcome Smile

Cheers,

PS: I attached a screen capture of what enlightenment looks like for those (like me) who never saw it before...

Yes, I have been using the FVWM for last 16 year on my SGI. I'm not sure if there is any important productivity decrease or increase - it's just a bit easier for me to have many keyboard shortcuts (some of them are probably impossible with the 4Dwm).I started to use it because it was way faster than the Ingigo Magic environment on my low end Indy and have continued to use it on a much powerful O2.

Compatibility isues. Yes. On the O2 with the 1600SW screen the screen saver (or something related to that) does not work. The 1600sw turns off after same time and the on;y way to make screen work is to turn of the system (or at least to log out).

And surely, you are a heretic ;-)

I've used MWM on my SGIs (and I continue to use it exclusively with my Linux workstations). IM is based on MWM, and if you use the iconbox option and edit your .mwmrc carefully it's got pretty much all the usefulness of the Toolchest/.chestrc functions. But yeah, not using IM under Irix is somewhat heretical... Tongue

IRIX interactive desktop and the OS itself are the reasons I like IRIX - I will openly admit - Zero allegiance to the CG/graphics apps (I am not artistic) and only a mild interest in the hardware itself.
