How does an Octane2 handle Onyx demos? - Irinikus - 09-09-2019
I made this video for "chulofiasco", as he's trying to get "Bump Logo" up and running on his new Octane2

It's crazy -- BumpLogo runs fine on, well, runs, on my O2, but the Octane continues to dump back to the login window... so strange

What version of IRIX are you running and did you get any conflicts during the install, as it should work on your system, as I'm running the same hardware?

What version of IRIX are you running and did you get any conflicts during the install, as it should work on your system, as I'm running the same hardware?
I'm pretty sure I'm on 6.5.30, I don't remember if i had any conflicts, i'll try to reinstall...
What's the best set of discs to install when you first bring the system up? Should I only install IRIX and the Applications, or can I add other discs to install as well without a problem?

How much RAM is in those machines? I've seen other systems do things like that when out of memory. (A large process -- such as X itself or the desktop manager -- gets killed to free up RAM and then the system automatically restarts it, taking you back to the login prompt.) Even if the Octane has plenty of RAM, it might be that the Octane has more background processes using it up.
Or it might not be any of the above....

My machine only has 2GB of ram and the demo runs properly.

4.5 GB in my Octane

Have the Onyx 2 demos now !
But these internals Cds seem to only work on Reality engine 2 (! for Onyx).
Don't now if the script will make them working :'-(
