how to install IRIX using unxmaal/booterizer - soviet - 09-05-2019

Hi i like to use what seem to be a very cool pre assembled netbook IRIX install environment but i'm a little lost.
link to the stuff https://github.com/unxmaal/booterizer
Don't have ever used vagrant before and not sure what it is still. But i know who to use ansible and linux a little lost here.
Installed ubuntu on a notebook and follow the instructions.
Already got:
ansible 2.7.6 or higher
Vagrant 2.2.3 or higher
Installed ok.
Got the plugin installed also $ vagrant plugin install vagrant-vbguest fine.
Burt after this "Target SGI Systems" start to talk about vagrant and settings i don't know what commands i have to run and on what order ?.
The yml files how the should be use what have to be download very very lost......

Someone familiar to the install procedure can help so i can start the virtual box vm that contain the install files ?.

Hey
I am too about to give up on this booterizer setup.
I have gone as far as the OP did and now im also stuck.
I have ZER0 experience in this sort of stuff, but my octane has no cd drive so damn it I guess ill have to try.
Can anyone point me in the direction of the "networking an SGI to a Mac via a virtual machine for 5 year olds" please.
Thanks, ill be sitting in the corner whispering ip addresses and meaningless subnets to myself.
Simon (a great artist, a useless everything else)

Hello there. I am in the same boat with you (no much knowledge about networks and stuff) but I've managed one network installation following this tutorial "http://techpubs.spinlocksolutions.com/irix/remote-irix-6.5-installation-from-linux.html".

One thing to note is that Linux is slowly removing support for the methods described there, and in general I've found that NetBSD or FreeBSD has a better chance of being compatible. I have some information for NetBSD (which is what DINA is based on.)

Check out this video, which walks through a booterizer install step by step. Note that they used a serial console, which saves some time, although I've always done the install through the SGI's own video terminal for funsies.

Otherwise, the discord server is the best place to get help.

The guys on the discord walked me through it, the "easy" way is to use a Pi but the instructions aren't very clear, at least if you're a newbie.

I've started a write-up on how to do it but have yet to finish it.

But definitely if you understand the steps (which still need explaining) I'd say anyone can do it. Half the battle for me was figuring out the MAC address of my machine, and understanding how to untar the pi image in windows.

Yeah, the developers (who have done a great service to the Irix community by building off Dina and making it much more usable and flexible) have continued to build out IMO more complicated install methods (raspberry pi, 'Irix Ansible') that, again IMO, have limited use cases.

Glad you were able to get it working!
