SGI storage tips - Jacques - 08-02-2019

Does anybody have any tips for storage of SGI machines, especially in relation to Dallas chips? I need to put my Octane in storage to create some space and want to ensure I keep it in storage in the best possible way. Storage location is my solid construction summer house (more like a garden house!) that doesn't get damp or too dry.

Should I take the Dallas chip out of the Octane while in storage or leave it in?

I could power it up a couple of times a year if need be.

My O2 will stay out as it's quiet(er) and has smaller space requirement.

I wouldn't worry too much about the DS1687-5 RTC on your Octane board. They are still available and are easily replaced.

Make sure you store them in a dry place. Chuck a desiccant like a satchel of silicagel in the storage box.

Dallas chip shouldnt leak, as it is a lithium battery contained in the plastic of the chip, so I wouldnt worry about that.

Climate controlled is preferred. They will rust in unclimate controlled storage
