£30 8 CPU Origin 2000 only worth £22.50 lets add an Oynx 2 -
uunix - 06-18-2018
[BTW Stu, if you are reading this, I'm only kidding about the price worthy-ness.. it was well worth that, and the time spent on the M6 doing 50MPH]
Hey all, you may have read I have picked a rather cool (as much as an Origin can be) for a princely sum of £30 (plus some jungle juice for the car).
After a few issues, I have it up and running, only £22.50's worth.. 1 nodeboard is not coming to life.
The first error that appears in the bootup console is..
Code:
<i>
</i>Discovering local IO ...................... Reading link 9 (addr 0x9200000009000004) failed
All other boot information is OK, then the sumary.
Code:
Checking hardware inventory ...............

It previously contained a node-board, barcode K0021505 laser 57089b

I have taken out this board and reseated memory, I haven't though taken of the CPU board as yet.

It might be worth taking a shot at clearing the hardware list the Power On Diagnostic portion of the PROM keeps. Had a similar "missing or disabled" issue and someone on the nekochan forum (maybe jan-jaap or recondas?) advised me to try this. In my case, it worked.
If my note are correect, Stop in the PROM and give these commands in order
pod
go cac (as I recall this set took some time to process)
clearalllogs
initalllogs
flush
reset
The system restarted here, I stopped in the PROM again and ran
enableall
update
reset
Since jan-jaap is here, you might want to run it by him before prceeding.
EDIT: I just downloaded the guide jan-jaap mentioned in the other post. The "POD" tool is covered in detail starting on page 174.

And now, it's a full £30...
Fitted memory correctly (still have a few bad memory simms, but only 3GBs worth)
All nodes activated, all CPUs..

So from the same seller, I picked up an Oynx2 (and an old SUN Enterprise 2 - SBUS free) for £170 + a trip up the dreaded M6..
I'll post some details later but it did come with some additional cards, and has fitted the DG 5.
Skins are OK and would come up nice with a clean up.

Congratulations, the Onyx2 deskside is a nice system to have, it has the IR graphics but you don't need to re-enforce the foundations of your house or install 3-phase wiring

What's the news on your Onyx2?

I did plug it all in and confirmed everything was OK, only via serial cable though. I had to put it by one side though, and I'm afraid that's were it will stay for a bit.

A great piece of music, by a great band!
