Help for a new O2 owner -
William D - 06-22-2019
Hi everyone, I got an O2 from work as they were going to scrap it. I bought a 73gig drive off of Ebay with Irix 6.5 and a TON of software already installed. So my questions are when I boot up the system there are a lot of things the system starts up that I don't need, so how can I disable them from starting up without removing them.
Another question is some of the software such as Maya is locked to another systemid, so how can I work around that.
And the last one (for now at least) is my PROM is 4.18, can I install 128Meg memory modules in my system as I read somewhere that you need 4.4? I tried running flashinst -T -y /usr/cpu/firmware/ip32prom.image and I get back bad PROM revision.
Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

It looks like you've tried to post some images to show what you mean. Rather make use of imgur to do this, as the images that you've posted aren't showing. Once we see what your problems are, then we can offer you some help or advice.
As far as Maya goes, you're going to have to create a flexlm license for your machine's hostid.
You should be able to get what you need to do this from this link: (It's a link to vishnu's ftp, he is also a member here.)

I did not try to post any images, for some reason when I hit enter it put those in. Each one was basically a new paragraph.

I have no idea why that's happening.
From what I can see it's not replicable from my end.

Hey William, some software uses flexlm. We have a license for some of that on the wiki (just search flexlm)
Anything requiring cracks or dongles, however, is not really something I can condone being chatted about here. While is obsolete software, this site is based in the US and I have to follow US law - which prohibits circumvention of software licensing/DRM. In other words, I just don't want this discussed extensively in public.

Hello, PROM version 4.18 is the latest so you're fine to add 128MB modules. You can diasble startup items with the 'chkconfig' command.
You can disable startup items via 'chkconfig <item name> off' eg. chkconfig sgi_apache off

Thanks for the info, good to know that I can add some more memory to my machine as it only has 64MB, and I was also able to get some programs running. It's amazing to think that something as complex as these are was built in 97.

What output do you get from 'chkconfig'? Turn on verbose and turn off esp and other things you don't need.
4.18 is the latest PROM. The number is not decimal, ie. 4.18 is newer than 4.4 because 18 is higher than 4.
Ian.
