Problems with the Softimage 3D installation on IRIX - RetroGamer1985 - 05-01-2019

Hi, I have a problem with the start of the installation of SI3D, when I double click on setup I get an error that says:

WARNING! Required cdinst file is not found, run setup directly from CDROM.

The problem that the cdinst.data is in the software folder and the installation does not detect it. I am installing it in an SGI Indy R5000 with IRIX 6.5.22 and the Indy SGI do not have CDROM Drive.

How can I solve my problem?

Try installing it from here: (This is the correct directory structure, when an actual disc is in the CD-ROM)

I just installed it on my Tezro without issue, using a DVD, which I cut from this ISO:

Thank you very much for the advice and I found the problem and solve it. But now that I have the softimage.lic I do not know where to place it in IRIX, I will do it in Windows but not in IRIX, I will not create permanent environment variables.

You place it in: /usr/local/flexlm/licenses/

It also needs to be renamed to: DL_license.dat

place the softimage.lic on /usr/local/flexlm/licenses but I had to create the folders flexlm/licenses because did not exist in the local folder. But it did not work when I clicked Softimage3D Extreme the console left a message that said "ssty:: invalid argument".

Then I wrote printenv in the unix shell and it showed me an environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE =: / var / flexlm / license.dat I think the person that  set up my Hard drive wrote that environment variable  and I do not know if this is affecting that Softimage3D does not work.

How can I solve this problem?

Sorry, my bad! It must be named: "license.dat"

it does not work either, maybe configure the User Tools incorrectly.

I didn't mess around with any of that. I just renamed the .lic file to license.dat and placed it in: /usr/local/flexlm/licenses/ and then just started Softimage 3D Extreme from the toolchest.

It still does not work for me, I do not know if the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE is harming the start of SI3D, this image shows what is configured.

A bit of a necropost but I just went through this exact issue and wanted to add how I was able to resolve it (at this point).

SI doesn’t seem to want to load in root mode. I’m still looking at the .cshrc and .login files associated with SI to see what needs to be changed to allow for root access.

In the meantime, run SI under a user account (be sure to add the account using “User Tools”). I’ve found no issues so far.
