Hi,
After 25 years in graphic design, I've install Softimage (v3.9.2) for the first time (!!!). Installing Softimage on a SGI workstation have always been a kind of a Graal for me and now, the dream come truth.
But I need help about setting the Database :
Where I have to create it ?
Do I have to create it once or do I need to create Databases for every projects ?
What kind of name do I have to use ?

Hello ther.
As far as I know, you should create a database for each project, but if it's just for fun I think one db for all could be fine!.

Thanks a lot, it works perfectly.
Now I have to read hundreds of docs pages to understand the basics of this beast. It looks really rigide but it reminds me 3D Studio R4 (The first 3D software I've touch).

@JacquesT
Thanks for this link :-)
I started to read the first manual "Softimage3D - Quick Start" (124 pages - found in the doc's CD)
Here the comment about databases creation :
Quote:- If a warning message appears asking you to create
a new database, follow these steps:
- In the message box, click the Create button.
- In the Set Database dialogue box that appears, enter your name as the database Name (fig. 2). By default, your home directory appears in the Path text box.
All SOFTIMAGE 3D scenes from the lessons in this guide will be saved in this directory.
- Click the Create button. A message appears stating that a database has been created and your DatabaseDir.rsrc file has been updated with this information. Click Exit.
A database is a description of the disk environment where your SOFTIMAGE 3D files are saved. A number of utilities that deal with SOFTIMAGE 3D files are available in the Database Manager, which is accessible by choosing the Get ➔ DB Manager command.
This is the most full and precise answer we can found.

My understanding was the database was a central repository for all assets to live. However if working on a large project, it would make sense to create a database specifically for that project. Filing scenes, elements, motion files are supposed to be transparent to the user as softimage takes care of organizing all the content.
As with gijoe, I work off a single database myself.
