This is neat. The IRIX kernel stuff is beyond me, but the security patched userland is doable, and I'm going to be moving back to where my SGI boxes are.

Curious about the valid IRIX license debate. Later on (I think it was post-6.5.22) SGI moved to a "licenses go poof" model like Sun, but earlier they were transferable with the box - if you look on Jan-Jaap's scanned license file it notes that under "transfers" (sec. 4) - so most IRISes should have transferable licenses. When I got my first SGIs I wrote Silicon Graphics Computer Systems and they replied and gave me the exact things that the machine was licensed for, no questions asked. Just write up a page saying you accept the license terms and it sure looks like you're good there. Note this wouldn't apply to MAME as the license does need to transfer with hardware.
