RE: External SCSI CDROM drive - toncho11 - 09-08-2023

I am waiting for some parts.
Just saw a cheap Yamaha CRW8424SX SCSI 8x4x24 CD-RW drive.
It seems nobody is using Yamaha on SGI. Is there a chance that it will work on Indy?

I've got a Yamaha CRW426 in an external enclosure and that works. That's a 4x2x6 drive

So I finally got the parts I needed.

So the Apple SCSI CD-ROM 300e Plus does not work. Irix says that there is no CD in the drive. So total failure. Irix sees a scsi cd-rom is attached, but it is unusable.
The Yamaha external scsi CD-RW 8/8/24 is working (so far). I had to clean CDs and find less scratched CDs to verify this.

One problem that I have is that I can only play song 1 when a music CD (wav) is inserted. Is it the disks that are too scratched (two of them) or the IRIX CdPlayer program is too buggy? Any ideas? It would be nice if I can listen to music (but not just the first title). The CDPlayer kind of always defaults to the first title, even if another one is selected in the UI. That makes makes me think it is a bug in the CDPlayer.

I used a 6.5.22 image from here: https://jrra.zone/sgi/
It booted OK on my Yamaha scsi CD-RW.

Music is coming from the power supply speaker.
